Art in Island

So far, we’ve stuck pretty close to home. That is about to end. Today, we went on our first  real adventure. Part 1 of 2.

We headed down to Quezon City, to go to the largest 3D art museum in Asia. (Holy crap! I’m in Asia!!!)  It is called Art in Island. And we loved it.

Really I don’t have too many words… mostly pictures.  Cause that’s kind of what you do at a place like this.  You get in the art, and you take a picture of it….and you move on to the next work of art. On the floor, are these stickers that show you where to get the best shot of a particular scene.  It’s very helpful.

We came away with some pretty fun pictures.  The museum itself was in a really cool area.  It is newer, and so there are lots of awesome buildings and shops and of course, a large farmer’s market and a mall or two. Cause that’s how they roll in the Philippines.

After all, there are 3…yes, THREE shopping malls within a quarter mile of our apartment. I do not exaggerate. And these are legit malls. They are huge. The SM megamall has a footprint of 25 acres.  And it is 5 floors!!  People spend a lot of time at malls here. There aren’t a ton of public attractions and amenities run by the city, whereas malls are clean and air conditioned,  So, people spend a lot of time in the malls. Walking around, eating, shopping a little. Plus they contain grocery stores. You could honestly live in a mall, and never leave.

Anyway…back to the museum. Some of the perspective shots are pretty amazing. The collage above has a few of our favorite illusion shots. It’s difficult to distinguish what is really going on, your mind just sees what it wants to see.

So, this place is huge.  We spent nearly 3 hours here.  And we could have spent much more. We skipped quite a few paintings, the kids wouldn’t have done well if we had spent a ton of time at each shot… As you can see, many of the images are enormous murals that just stretch over the walls (Like the image above).  And then others are like smaller paintings that are ‘hung’ on walls (like the one below).  The picture above is the main room, it is circular with lots of different scenes painted all the way around. I love the one below of me and P Pie. “Oh us? Oh, we’re just doing a little star-gazing. Then he will have his Japanese lesson. Followed by oboe lessons.”

Seriously, I was amazed by the art.  It is so realistic. Whoever did these…just…Wow!! they are amazing artists.  It is all gorgeous, but then with the added task of making it 3D. Mind. Blown. I can barely draw a stick figure!

And the kids? They were perfect the entire time we were out and about today.  No doubt it was divine intervention. And I am not being facetious in the least. We said a little prayer before we left, and boy did the Heavens come through for us. Because, it really could have gone the other way!

Logan even fell asleep in the stroller at one point. HALLELUJAH!! He hasn’t been feeling perfect.  He’s had some ailment or another since we got here (a cold that hasn’t ever gone away, teething, ears, pink eye, teething, cold, teething). And so of course, we still had to involve him:

Bwahahahahaha!!! We are hilarious.  ‘Nuff said.

And after we were done at the museum, we did other adventurous things.  Which I’m going to detail in another post….Cause holy- already-really-long batman!!

So, the image below, on the bottom.  That is an Ames room. It is an illusion that is basically a trick of perspective.  Ames room.  Add that to your Gee-whiz! collection.

Pictures are worth a thousand words…so I’m good.  All you need is….

That is one of my favorites from the day.  It’s just so perfect. I do love those little monkeys.  So, there you have it.  That was our trip to Art in Island.
We had a grand ol’ time and would highly recommend this!

  1. Love the pictures. Did you get any from the wrong perspective so you cold see how the effect was done?

    1. No!! We didn’t even think about it honestly!! How lame is that!?! I wouldn’t be surprised if we got one or two just by accident though…
