Harborwalk & Children’s Wharf Park (08.16.22)

For day two with Sarah and Ezra, we decided to go down to the Harborwalk. Siri initially took us to an industrial dock…. but after some quick research, we made it in the end. It’s a cool part of town. Definitely on the newer/gentrified side.

We made our way over to Martin’s Park, which was named after the youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombing. 😔😔

And it was a really cool spot. In the beginning, we didn’t quite appreciate just how cool it was. Cause we only hung out on one side! We didn’t even realize that there was a whole other half!

We ended up at the play ship. And the kids had a great time hanging out there, climbing around on it, and sliding down the hills that were built into the play surface.

And after they discovered the “water garden” which was basically a splash pad, they appreciated having a spot (on top of the ship’s cabin) to dry off.

One other cool thing, as you entered the park, there were little stations with what looked like hand sanitizer dispensers, but they actually contained sunscreen. We had already put sunscreen on before we arrived, but I thought that was really cool.

Eventually, one of the kids discovered the little pedestrian bridge that took you to the other half of the park. And for our crew that was the favored side, there were more things to do: basket swings, slides, climbing structures, etc.

Sarah went and got lobster rolls for her and Ezra (my kids weren’t gonna go for that, unfortunately) and once she got back, Logan and I walked a couple blocks over to a Trader Joe’s and picked up some stuff for the Urie lunch.

We ate and let the kids play for a while longer.

But eventually, we managed to tear them away from the playground and we went down to the Harborwalk. There were beautiful views of the city all along the way. And we also saw the Boston Tea Party museum and ships. (And we got to watch a couple of different tour groups throw “tea” overboard)

One of the other things we saw on the harbor walk, was a free fishing demonstration/workshop. And that was all fine and dandy, but the thing that really drew the kids attention were the sea creatures.

They got to pet a skate and also took turns holding a crab. Eventually we managed to tear the children away from the sea creatures.

We walked a little bit longer, but the kids were all starting to get hot and tired and so we headed back to the car and went home. They played hard and had a great time.

And they were all FILTHY. We took them home and chucked them all in the shower.
