Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens

First, a few Random Items:

We got to experience an epic rainstorm the day after we got here. And we got to see a double-rainbow.

Also, we have had a stomach bug that has been very slowly working our way through several members of the family. Or maybe we’re just unlucky and have caught multiple stomach bugs?

In any case, Isaac got it. He woke up Monday morning with a fever and he threw up. So, that put a damper on things for a couple of days. Poor little man. That was not fun for anyone involved.

But, after he had been symptom free for a couple days, we decided to go do something, ideally an activity where we wouldn’t be in close contact with other people. Just in case.

The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens were the perfect option.

It is basically what it sounds like: gardens that feature aquatic plants. Many of the plants are actually tropical, and so they have to do some botany magic to actually make them grow in a climate that gets snow.

We sure appreciated their magic. The water lilies were blooming and beautiful! They also have lotuses, but we visited a little early in the year for them to be blooming. I think we’ll come back at the end of our stay to see how/if things have progressed. (Hooray that it’s only a mile from our house!)

Lotuses are absolutely MAGNIFICENT in person. We got to see them in Vietnam, and I can absolutely see why they are so iconic.

The ponds/gardens are arranged in a grid like formation, separated by small strips of land. As I mentioned before, it was pretty rainy. And so, these little walkways were fairly gooey. We definitely got a little muddy.

The flowers were beautiful. And as we were walking, we heard a lot of evidence of frogs, and we even saw frog eggs. But no actual frogs were spotted. Logan was disappointed. But, the eggs cheered him up.

After we had toured the gardens, we went and walked on the boardwalk out to the tidal marsh. It was really beautiful. And we saw a lot of birds that Clara was excited about: a red-winged blackbird and an osprey (we even saw it catch a fish).

We spent quite a while out on the boardwalk, enjoying the view and enjoying the perfect weather. But eventually we made our way back.

I would count this as a very successful outing. We got to see some of our favorite things: Birds! Flowers! Frogs! (Well, pre-frogs… đŸ˜‰)
