Maine, Week 2 (June 20-26)

A Certain Person’s Birthday

Ok. Ok. It was mine. 🤪 Jonathan and the kids made me breakfast in bed…. Sort of. I was doing my duty and remaining in bed and Isaac came in and told me that Dad wanted me. So I went out to the kitchen… And it turns out that I wasn’t actually being summoned….

So Breakfast in bed became breakfast at the table.

But it worked out, cause we all just ate at the table and it didn’t make quite so many messes. 🤪

For my bday, I got a new Apple Watch (my old one died while we were in DC. But it was a series one, and honestly we were amazed it lasted as long as it did!). And each of the three older kids selected a watch band for me.

It was a normal kind of day. Except that we went to Panera for dinner. The gift of no dishes! Yay!!

Campfire- Hot Dogs & S’Mores

One night this week, we made good use of the firepit. We all put on permethrin-treated clothing or our “Poison pants” as Clara has started calling them.

Jonas set a goal to build a fire all by himself while we were here in this house, and he did it! Jonathan supervised but did not intervene.

We then used the fire to cooked out hot dogs and later, we roasted marshmallows for S’mores.

While we were doing all of this, Clara managed to catch the bun bun and we all took turns holding him. He is the cutest little critter in all the land.

Speaking of the Bun…

The Bun has officially been voted the best part of this house. At least twice a day, Clara goes out and stalks him. And she attempts to lure him with carrots. And if she’s lucky, she even gets to hold him. She has taken to making him salads, with all his favorite things in it: rose petals, carrots, kale, lettuce, etc. He is definitely a fan of the salads. He devours them. And it’s cool because he is beginning to really trust Clara; when he sees her, he often comes right over.

Playing Outside

Other than the bun, there have been other fun things that have drawn us outside. The weather here is amazing. It’s warm but not hot and the humidity is relatively low.

And while the ticks have definitely put a damper on certain aspects of the yard, we have still taken advantage of it quite a bit. The kids have really enjoyed the swing and the slack line has been really fun for Logan in particular. And speaking of Logan, he has already accomplished his goal of seeing 40 frogs in person in Maine 😂. The little pond is FULL of them. I wish they would eat the ticks….

Let’s Get Physical

We’ve all been staying pretty active while we’ve been here: Jonathan and Clara have been good about going running.

And JustDance has been a hit as well. The three youngest in particular have been the major instigators of JustDance parties. But, we’re all enjoying it. And we actually have a large enough living room to accomodate everyone’s dance moves, which is also very nice.

The catch-all section.
