But first….
07/31/22- Sunday
So, we went to church today. And as we went to pick up Logan from his class, we noticed that all the kids in his class had squash and cucumbers.
My first thought was “Man, that’s brilliant. If you have too much produce in your garden, go pass it out in the primary. They won’t say ‘no’!! And they’ll probably even insist on getting more…”
But come to find out, the congregation has a little vegetable garden around the back of the church. And so, during primary, Logan’s class went outside and harvested the veggies that were ripe.
When the twins saw Logan’s spoils, they were wildly jealous that they didn’t have squash and cucumbers of their own, and so Logan took us out to the garden and we were allowed to pick a couple of cucumbers so that the twins could have their very own 😂😂
And in the evening, Jonathan started a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. They are now obsessed.
Overall, it was a nice relaxing Sunday.
Profile Lake via Pemi trail (08.01.22)
HOW THE HECK IS IT AUGUST ALREADY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? 😵😵 Man. Time is flying. We should probably figure our lives out…. 🤪🤪🤪
After Jonathan finished work for the day, we went on a little hike/nature walk. It was only a 13 minute drive from our place, which is just the best.
We decided to do the Profile Lake trail. It is so named because from the lake, you used to be able to see the Old Man of the Mountain, a series of cliffs that resemble a human profile. Unfortunately, it collapsed in 2003, but it is still pretty iconic: it is still on all of the state route markers, it’s on the NH quarters, and is also on the license plates (Along with the state motto which is Live Free or Die.)
So, we got to the trail head and off we went.
The first portion is a pretty scramble-y trail that meanders through the forest. It’s nice and shady, which is very appreciated on a hot and humid afternoon.
The twins did really well. They only fell down a couple times each. Poor little critters.
Eventually, the trail meets up with the Profile lake, and pretty much for the rest of the time, you walk right alongside the lake.
The views were lovely the whole way. Eventually we came to a bridge which allowed us to cross over to a little beach.
And we stayed at the beach for a good long while, enjoying the views and letting the kids wade in the water. At least, they were *supposed* to be wading. But, let’s be be honest, they were getting their clothes pretty wet. So, we just told them to take their shorts off so that they could wade more freely. #redneckparents
Fortunately, I happened to have snacks in my backpack, as we hadn’t had dinner yet. It allowed us to enjoy this beautiful spot for a little longer than we would have otherwise. It is absolutely beautiful. New Hampshire is such a beautiful state.
We learned from the other party on the beach that there was a little parking lot just a little way up the path from us, so Jonathan hiked down and got the car and then drove it back to pick us up. Again, allowing us to spend a little more time on the beach.
After he came back, we all piled in the car and headed home. This was a lovely little adventure.
