The Saturday on which things just didn’t work out

Our plan for this Saturday had been to do a little bit of house hunting, and then to take the kids to Lake Norman for the rest of the day. We had a couple of open houses and one individual showing all lined up. But, the open houses both fell through (one because some of the HOA rules were seriously not gonna work for us (no trampolines), and the other because the house had just gone under contract). We still went to a showing but the house just wasn’t meant to be. Though it was a lovely house.

Nice yard! But yeah. No go.

And so then we started driving, and we saw a subdivision that was being constructed and that they were open, so we decided to stop by. And we ended up being there for MUCH longer than we had planned. (In the end, this one isn’t going to work out either. They nickel and dime you on EVERYTHING. It was kinda unreal.)

Lake Norman

After dragging our children hither, thither, and yon we finally made our way to Lake Norman. It was about an hour drive from where we’d been.

And when we got to Lake Norman, we saw a sign that said “Beach Closed.” We were like “Whaaaat?”

We parked, and Jonathan and Clara went to check it out. And the beach was indeed closed; apparently it is only open from Memorial day to Labor day. And after talking to some people, this is very strictly enforced, because there have been a number of deaths. There were even police officers patrolling the area.

This was a rather frustrating development, as there was no indication anywhere online that the beach was closed.

To say that the kids were disappointed would be a bit of an understatement. They didn’t even want to play at the playground (even though it was an excellent playground) because they were so sad.

So, we had a family conference. In the end, we decided to play at the playground for a bit. And then to go home and have an awesome dinner and a sweet movie night.

Fortunately, that part of the day did work out.

Mother’s Day

Mother’s day was lovely. Jonathan and the kids made me breakfast in bed. Jonathan has gotten this dialed in: he always makes more food than I will eat, because inevitably, the children snitch my food.

He also got me beautiful roses.

And children bought me a shirt.

We even made it to 9 am church on time.

After church, I took a delicious nap. And then Jonathan made pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy.

It was a positively lovely Mother’s day.
